The Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) shared proceeds from its monthly Gringo Bingo fundraiser this month with the American Diabetes Association in memory of Jessenia Francisco, a beloved longtime member whose mother, the late Mirey Kilmon, and aunt, Charo Bolanos, both served as past presidents of the club.

Club members and friends, including Jessie’s twin brother, Johnny Francisco, and her aunts, Charo Bolanos and Lourdes Perez, joined a larger-than-usual crowd for the May 26 event. The evening was filled with friendship, laughter and heartfelt memories as attendees celebrated Jessie’s life while supporting an important cause.
Adding to the fun was 10-year-old Jax Gonzalez, grandson of CGWC member Ana Lam. When emcee Steven Bradley invited Jax to assist with the evening’s festivities, the young volunteer quickly became a crowd favorite. Before long, Steven handed him the microphone, and Jax confidently took center stage, entertaining guests with his charm and enthusiasm while keeping everyone laughing.
While many nonprofit organizations slow down during the summer months, others remain busy making a difference throughout the community. Shake-A-Leg Miami continues its popular summer sailing camps, while South Florida PBS is drawing visitors with two exciting new immersive Virtual Reality experiences at its headquarters in Boynton Beach.
The newly formed Doral West Dade Woman’s Club plans to take advantage and support these innovative attractions with another popular party-bus excursion on Aug. 22. The day includes transportation, food and beverages to and from Boynton Beach, allowing participants to enjoy the experiences together while supporting worthwhile causes.
Tickets are $175 per person, and space is limited. For information, contact [email protected]. Proceeds from the trips help support funding charitable projects and community initiatives while experience tickets help support SFLPBS.
Recently, South Florida PBS chief of Marketing and Education Jeneissy Azcuy appeared on Gloria’s Gab LIVE to showcase video highlights of the VR experiences and discuss how these attractions are helping generate revenue to support programming on WXEL, WPBT and the Health Channel.
Meanwhile, in Coconut Grove, over the summer Team Paradise continues preparing veterans living with PTSD for a regatta race scheduled for this fall. The nonprofit organization was founded by 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist Magnus Liljedahl and uses adaptive sports and therapeutic sailing to help veterans and others process trauma, build confidence and strengthen connections.

Magnus and his wife, Susan, recently stopped by Miami’s Community Newspapers for a tour of the offices and studios and unexpectedly found themselves appearing as guests on Gloria’s Gab LIVE. Their inspiring story highlighted the positive impact Team Paradise continues to make in the lives of veterans throughout South Florida. The organization welcomes additional sponsors and supporters to help expand its mission and reach even more participants.
