Following Governor Ron DeSantis’ recent announcement calling for major property tax relief measures ahead of the upcoming Florida Special Session, Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez issued the following statement:

“Let me be clear. For too long, Florida families have felt like they are working harder every year just to keep up with rising property taxes, rising insurance costs, rent, and everyday expenses. Meanwhile, property values continue climbing and government revenues continue growing.
“That is why today’s announcement matters. It is a breath of fresh air to see leaders across Florida rowing in the same direction and having a serious conversation about real property tax relief for homeowners.
“I commend Gov. Ron DeSantis, Speaker Danny Perez, and Senate President Ben Albritton for putting this issue front and center ahead of the upcoming Special Session. Floridians should be encouraged that their government is listening to the growing concerns about affordability and the rising cost of staying in their homes.
“As Tax Collector, I see firsthand the pressure property taxes place on families, seniors, and small businesses across Miami-Dade County. Residents are not an unlimited source of revenue for government.
“That is also why our office is already providing direct assistance to residents who are struggling to pay their property taxes. Our team is proactively reaching out to taxpayers, working with them one-on-one, helping them understand available payment options and resources, and doing everything within our authority to help people stay in their homes.
This conversation is bigger than politics. It is about affordability, homeownership, and protecting the ability of longtime residents, working families, and seniors to continue living in the communities they helped build.

The message from taxpayers is clear: they need relief, they deserve relief, and government needs to deliver.”
