A group of high school and college students serving as Junior Ambassadors for A Safe Haven for Newborns are stepping into leadership roles through community outreach and fundraising efforts aimed at preventing infant abandonment.

Mackenzie McCormick, Natalia Delgado, and Daniela Delgado, who attend St. Brendan High School, along with Isabel Delgado, a student at FIU, and Layla Reyhani of SAS, balance academic and extracurricular commitments while volunteering with the nonprofit, which provides a safe, legal, and anonymous option for mothers in crisis.
Recently, the students hosted a booth at the Pinecrest Gardens Farmers Market, where they engaged residents, shared the organization’s mission, and raised awareness about available resources.
They are also leading a summer initiative to connect with local businesses and secure in-kind donations for the upcoming “A Wonderland at Safe Haven” Gala in October, supporting lifesaving programs for mothers and their newborns in crisis.
For many years, these Junior Ambassadors have worked tirelessly behind the scenes providing valuable support in major events including the annual gala, golf tournament, and community walk — assisting with coordination, logistics, and on-site efforts.
“Through their dedication and heart for service, these young leaders are proving that age is no barrier to creating real and lasting impact,” said Nick Silverio, founder of ASHFN.
The group continues to expand awareness and community involvement across South Florida.
