Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) team, Florida Task Force One (FL-TF1), actively conducted search and rescue operations in Playa Grande, La Guaira, Venezuela, following the devastating earthquakes that impacted the region.

Deployed under the coordination of the U.S. Department of State and working alongside international response partners, the 80-member Type I Urban Search and Rescue team, accompanied by six highly trained canine teams, has conducted systematic searches of disaster-affected structures.
FL-TF1 personnel conducted complex search operations under challenging conditions, carefully assessing damaged structures and executing search missions with the shared objective of locating and assisting those affected by the earthquake.
The task force’s canine search teams remain a critical component of these operations. Composed of specially trained canines and their handlers, these teams use the dogs’ exceptional scent-detection capabilities to identify individuals who may be trapped beneath collapsed structures, allowing rescuers to search affected areas rapidly and effectively.
