As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding this July 4th, we have an opportunity to reflect on the principles that have guided America for two and a half centuries: liberty, self-government, and the power of citizens to shape their future through the ballot box.

Few rights are more fundamental to our democracy than the right to vote. It is a freedom secured through the sacrifices of generations who believed that government works best when it remains accountable to the people it serves.

Participating in elections is about more than selecting candidates or voting on important questions. It is about preserving the democratic values that have allowed our nation to thrive and ensuring that every voice has an opportunity to be heard. Each election gives us the chance to help determine the direction of our communities, our state, and our country.

Miami-Dade voters will have that opportunity once again during the 2026 election cycle. The Primary Election will be held on August 18, followed by the General Election on November 3. Eligible residents who are not yet registered to vote should take action now. The deadline to register for the Primary Election is July 20. We will discuss more at our upcoming breakfast meeting in July with Miami’s Community News!

A healthy democracy depends on active participation. When citizens stay informed, engaged, and committed to voting in every election, our institutions grow stronger and our communities become more representative of the people they serve.

As America marks 250 years of independence, let us honor the enduring ideals that unite us as a nation. One of the most meaningful ways to celebrate our country’s history is by participating in its future today.
