Mitzvah Kitchen is proud to celebrate its first anniversary with a community cooking event in which over 700 meals were prepped, cooked and packaged for people experiencing food insecurity. The event on May 13th marks the 38th event in one year and the accomplishment of  a grand total of 20,000 meals served to date. The nonprofit centered on combating food insecurity while building community emerged in May of 2025 under the direction of Rabbi Yossi Harlig at the Chabad of Kendall & Pinecrest. Every meal begins with a simple idea: when people come together with purpose, small acts of kindness can create extraordinary impact.  The meals are prepped and packaged by volunteers, families, students, corporate teams, and community partners gathered in their state-of-the-art kitchen and delivered to individuals and families throughout Miami-Dade county and into Broward. From corporations bringing employees for a day of volunteering and connectivity, to people celebrating their birthday parties in a meaningful way, each community cooking event serves as an act of kindness and impact. In the first year, the MK held 38 community cooking gatherings, hosted 1700+ volunteers who participated in over 3,500 hours, working with 42 charities and 11 corporate partners.
