There’s a version of the Hummer that lived in Miami’s collective memory as pure excess – a chrome-trimmed status symbol crawling down Biscayne Boulevard at twelve miles per gallon, burning fossil fuels with a kind of aggressive joy. That truck didn’t disappear. It just went electric, got smarter and learned a new party trick.

Meet the 2026 GMC Hummer EV.
GMC has been quietly doing something interesting with this truck since it launched in 2021: treating it less like a product and more like a platform. Software updates pushed over the air. New features unlocked remotely. It’s the Tesla playbook applied to a vehicle that could eat a Cybertruck for breakfast and still clear a boulder field before lunch.
For 2026, the headline feature is something called King Crab mode. King Crab is an all-new advanced rear-steer mode that takes the Hummer EV’s standard four-wheel steering to the next level, improving maneuverability in off-road settings by turning the rear wheels significantly faster than the front. What you get is a truck that can essentially walk sideways through tight terrain. Rock crawling, trail navigation, even tight urban parking situations are features that would give a lesser vehicle nightmares. And here’s the part that matters if you already own one: King Crab will be available to all 2022–2025 Hummer EV owners via an over-the-air software update later this year. No new truck required.
That’s a meaningful gesture in an industry that typically charges you for progress by making you buy next year’s model.
Hummer EV models also feature bidirectional charging – meaning you can transfer power to another EV or, if your home is wired for it, keep the lights on during a blackout. Down here in South Florida, where hurricane season is less a meteorological event and more an annual stress test, that’s more infrastructure than a luxury feature. A truck that doubles as a generator when the grid goes dark? Suddenly the price tag, at $97,000, has a practical benefit that you can justify to your accountant.

The 3X Pickup with the 24-module battery continues to put out 1,160 horsepower and 13,000 lb-ft of torque – numbers that read more like a military spec sheet than a window sticker. And for those who feel the base supertruck isn’t quite theatrical enough, there’s a new limited-run Carbon Fiber Edition for the 3X Pickup and SUV, with drivetrain enhancements dropping the 0-60 time to just 2.8 seconds. It comes in Magnus Gray Matte with a Velocity Ember interior, which sounds like someone named a paint color by thinking outside the box.
Super Cruise — the industry’s first true hands-free driver assistance system — also gets updated for 2026, with automatic lane changes and real-time navigation-assisted driving on compatible roads. The integration with onboard Google Maps means the truck will nudge itself into the correct lane for your route before you even think about it.
The 2026 Hummer EV isn’t trying to be subtle. It never was. But what’s changed is the intelligence layered underneath all that and the willingness to evolve, to push capabilities to be something more than sheet metal and spectacle.
