Designed for sailors ages 6 to 17, the program offers a dynamic mix of beginner instruction and advanced racing techniques – all set against the scenic backdrop of Biscayne Bay. With daily on-the-water training, safety education, and team-building activities, CGSC’s summer camp continues its tradition of fostering confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of sailing.
“This program goes far beyond just learning to sail,” said CGSC General Manager Lauren Simpson. “With a strong emphasis on safety, it’s about helping young people build confidence, develop resilience, and discover what they’re capable of — both on and off the water.”
Under the leadership of the New IC Director Maru Urban and IC Assistant Director Rosa Lamela, CGSC’s Summer Camp is designed to provide a safe and engaging introduction to sailing while allowing participants to explore all that Biscayne Bay has to offer. According to Lamela, the program is where novice sailors learn the fundamentals and more experienced sailors sharpen their skills.
“We’re creating an environment where every sailor feels safe, supported, challenged, and excited to come back each day,” she said. “Whether it’s their first time stepping into a boat or exploring the Bay, we want each camper to leave stronger, more confident, and inspired. We also encourage them to continue with our year-round sailing programs.”
Summer Sailing Camp sessions run weekly from June through August. Participants will train in a variety of small boats, including Optimists, Lasers, and 420s, based on age and experience.
