City’s Pilot Program will first be rolled out in the South of Fifth neighborhood
Miami Beach’s lively atmosphere coexists with thriving residential communities that have increasingly voiced concerns about intrusive nighttime vehicle noise. To help restore a more peaceful environment, the City of Miami Beach is piloting a new Quiet Zone Pilot Program aimed at reducing disruptive sounds during late evening and overnight hours. The city will evaluate this year-long pilot for effectiveness before deciding to expand it to other parts of the city.

“This pilot program is aimed at the people who create so much noise with their vehicles that they become a neighborhood nuisance,” explained Miami Beach Vice Mayor Laura Dominguez,who sponsored the initiative. “I hope this will be an important step at increasing the quality of life for our residents.”
The pilot will take place in the South of Fifth neighborhood and will address some of the most persistent nighttime disruptions — including engine revving, modified exhaust systems and loud amplified sound from vehicles.
As part of the program, the city has installed large, bright yellow aluminum signs that alert motorists they are entering a designated Quiet Zone where fines may be issued. Each sign features the universal muted‑speaker icon to reinforce the message.

“Our residents deserve to rest peacefully in their homes, especially during late-night hours,” said Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner. “Excessive vehicle noise is not merely disruptive — it is a quality of life issue. I had sponsored a series of measures to crack down on illegal and disruptive vehicle noise, and this new Quiet Zone Pilot Program gives our police another practical tool to address chronic disturbances and protect the character of our residential neighborhoods.”
Enforcement will be conducted by Miami Beach police officers as part of their regular evening duties under Operation Quiet Streets. Citations will be issued under a range of applicable laws and ordinances when violations occur.
