Over the years, I have had the opportunity to meet many elected officials. Some come and go. Some make promises and disappear. Others grow into leaders who earn the trust and respect of the communities they serve.

Oliver Gilbert is one of those leaders.

I first met Oliver years ago when he served as a commissioner in Miami Gardens. Later, he became mayor. Throughout his public service career, I have watched him grow, mature, and take on greater responsibilities.

Today, he serves on the Miami-Dade County Commission and has become one of the most recognizable voices in county government.

What has impressed me most is not just his political success. It is his commitment to the people he represents.

Oliver understands neighborhoods. He understands families. He understands small businesses. He understands the challenges facing working people throughout Miami-Dade County.

He has never forgotten where he came from.

That matters.

Too often, elected officials become disconnected from the communities that sent them to office. Oliver Gilbert has remained engaged and accessible. Whether you agree with him on every issue or not, there is no question that he listens, shows up, and works hard.

Miami-Dade County is one of the most diverse communities in America. We need leaders in Washington who understand our unique challenges and opportunities.

We need leaders who know our neighborhoods, our businesses, our schools, and our families.

We need leaders who have demonstrated the ability to bring people together.

Oliver Gilbert has shown he can do that.

His experience as a city commissioner, mayor, and county commissioner has prepared him for the next step in public service. He understands local government because he has lived it. He understands how decisions made in Washington impact the people of South Florida because he sees those impacts every day.

Congress needs more leaders with real local government experience.

Congress needs people who understand that public service is about solving problems, not creating headlines.

As publisher of Miami Community Newspapers, I have watched Oliver Gilbert’s journey for many years. I have seen his dedication to the community. I have seen his commitment to public service. I have seen his willingness to take on difficult issues.

That is why Miami Community Newspapers is proud to endorse Oliver Gilbert for Congress.

This endorsement is based on years of observation, years of conversations, and years of watching him serve our community.

The challenges facing South Florida are significant. From affordability and transportation to economic development and infrastructure, we need strong representation in Washington.

We believe Oliver Gilbert has the experience, leadership, and commitment necessary to represent our community effectively.

For these reasons, Miami Community Newspapers proudly supports Oliver Gilbert for Congress.

We wish him success in his campaign and look forward to seeing how he continues serving the residents of Miami-Dade County and South Florida.
