Shirlyon is a proud graduate of Bethune-Cookman University and the University of Florida College of Law. It is not doubt that she has had a prestigious career. She served as a Miami-Dade County Court Judge, an Assistant State Attorney with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, Executive Director of Miami-Dade Schools Office of Civil Rights, Director of Equal Opportunity Programs and Diversity and Title IX at Florida International University, and Assistant General Counsel for the Dade County Police Benevolent Association.
In addition to her legal advocacy, Attorney McWhorter has been actively involved in the South Florida community for many years. She has served in leadership positions in many volunteer organizations, including Vice President of the Miami Biscayne Bay Chapter of the Links and past president of the Miami Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Wilkie D. Ferguson Bar Associations and the Gwen S. Cherry Women Lawyers Bar Association. Attorney McWhorter also serves as the Board Chair of Aspire Preparatory Academy.
