A newly released poll commissioned by Mayor Eileen Higgins’ political committee shows overwhelming support among Miami voters for the proposed $450 million Safe & Ready Public Safety Bond aimed at modernizing the city’s aging emergency response infrastructure. According to the survey, nearly 70% of likely Miami voters support the proposal after learning more about the plan and its impact on public safety

The proposed Public Safety Bond would fund critical upgrades across the City of Miami, including a new public safety building, a state-of-the-art 911 call center, a Category 5-ready Emergency Operations Center, and the modernization, expansion, and construction of neighborhood fire-rescue stations. The poll found that support for the proposal grows significantly once voters learn more about the condition of the city’s aging facilities, the life-saving importance of improving emergency response times, and the modest cost to the typical household.

“It’s clear that Miami residents understand that this public safety infrastructure crisis puts their homes, their families, and their neighborhoods at risk. Keeping our community safe means making sure our first responders have the facilities, technology, and infrastructure they need to do their jobs effectively,” said Mayor Eileen Higgins. “It also means more local fire-rescue stations so response times meet national standards in every neighborhood. The Safe & Ready bond is about life-saving public safety, emergency preparedness, and delivering the infrastructure our growing city deserves. This is a crisis — residents want a city government that solves long-ignored problems, invests responsibly, and keeps them safe.”

Before hearing detailed information about the proposal, nearly 58% of voters already supported the Public Safety Bond. After learning more, support increased to nearly 70%. Notably, support for the proposal is broad-based across Miami’s diverse electorate — with strong backing from Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike, as well as voters in every City Commission district.

The poll comes as Mayor Higgins continues to focus her administration on restoring trust in City Hall, solving long-ignored problems, and improving core city services residents rely on every day. Throughout her public service career, Higgins has emphasized results-driven leadership focused on affordability, safer neighborhoods, resilient infrastructure, and responsive government.

The survey was conducted by MDW Communications May 4–10, 2026 among 410 likely City of Miami primary voters. The poll was administered bilingually in English and Spanish and weighted to reflect likely voter turnout. The margin of error is +/- 4.8%.
