The Town of Cutler Bay had its 58th annual Cutler Bay/Whispering Pines Independence Day Celebration and Golf Cart Parade on Saturday, July 4.

The annual celebration for America’s birthday always is one of the town’s more popular and well-attended events, and this year it had even greater meaning because the United States now is 250 years old.
There had been some concern about the weather with recent heat advisories and thunderstorms, but that proved not to be a problem and Events and Programs manager Maria Herrera-Mendoza could not have been more pleased with the way it all turned out.
“Our Fourth of July event was a tremendous success,” Herrera-Mendoza said. “We welcomed 282 golf carts and six vehicles in our Golf Cart Parade, enjoyed an exciting flyover by the 93rd Fighter Squadron, and provided complimentary burgers, hot dogs, chips, soda, water, slushies and roasted corn for everyone in attendance.”
The parade of patriotically decorated golf carts moved along the streets surrounding the lake beginning at 9 a.m. and from 10 a.m. until noon was the picnic at Whispering Pines Park, 8800 Ridgeland Dr.
During the picnic the National Anthem was played and members of the town council gave brief speeches on stage. At 11:15 a.m. was the fly-over by the U.S. Air Force. The 93rd Fighter Squadron is part of the Air Force Reserve Command’s 482nd Fighter Wing at Homestead Air Reserve Base. A large crowd turned out to view the parade and to enjoy the picnic.
