South Florida has been abuzz this summer with excitement surrounding our nation’s upcoming 250th birthday celebrations, the amazing FIFA events, chamber activities, and service clubs preparing for the coming year.

Coral Gables Rotarians held their annual July 4 Party at Matheson Hammock Park coordinated by past president Sally Baumgarnter. The picnic featured catered food such as chicken and ribs, and recreational activities, before members headed out to watch the local fireworks.
Many joined the fun that afternoon and evening at Birdie Bistro, coordinated by Carmen Suarez and Rita Tennyson as a fundraiser for the Coral Gables Woman’s Club. Located on the Granada Golf Course, Birdie Bistro provided a great view of the city’s fireworks at The Biltmore Hotel.
The amazing Rodney Barreto, president, CEO, and chief visionary officer of the Barreto Group has been busy with FIFA games but spent the morning of Juneteenth at Miami’s Community News where he introduced Congressman Byron Donalds, Republican frontrunner for governor of Florida drawing a large group of supporters and media. The Congressman certainly delivered a great message and with our publisher, Grant Miller, showed a great personality as well.
Felix Pardo, who stepped up once again to serve as president of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables was installed at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables on June 25.
In other club news, the General Federation of Woman’s Club had its Spring Workshop on June 20 at the Miami Woman’s Club. It is where clubs from all over South Florida gather to make plans with the new administration for the future. This was 2026-28 district director Shirley Pardon’s first meeting of her term and during the program 2024-26 distict director Ruth Martinez passed the gavel.
In other activity, the Coral Gables Chamber’s Women in Business Committee, chaired by Tana Llinas, held its monthly luncheon on June 16.
The sold-out affair, held at the Thesis Hotel, featured a panel discussion with women in the construction industry. The program included moderator Kara Olesky with panelists Karen Campbell, Ligis Labrada and Monique Selman. who always stands out with her pink construction helmet. That luncheon was followed two days later with the chamber’s monthly breakfast meeting on June 18 at The Biltmore Hotel.
