That is why the County’s IDEA Rewards program is a step in the right direction. It recognizes an important fact: the employees closest to the work often have the best solutions. Good ideas deserve to be called out, and this program delivers exactly that.
But Miami-Dade County should not stop there. With a budget approaching $13 billion, this is a county that needs to constantly ask one question: How can we do things better? When you manage billions of dollars in taxpayer money, innovation cannot be just a program. It has to become part of the culture.
Bigger Rewards for Bigger Ideas
The County should create bigger incentives for ideas that save significant taxpayer dollars. If an employee finds a way to save hundreds of thousands — or even millions — of dollars, that person should receive a meaningful reward and public recognition.
