The Caring Place on Wednesday, June 24, showered guests at both its Miami-Dade and Broward County centers with love, joy and dignity during a special celebration many had not experienced in years.

The “Bombastic Birthday Party” was a heartfelt event dedicated to honoring the birthdays of homeless men, women, and children, many of whom have had their special day overlooked due to the struggles of homelessness.
For walk-in guests, who often go unnoticed by society, this event was a powerful reminder that they are seen, valued, and celebrated. In addition to walk-in guests, in-house residents also took part in the festivities. Both centers were transformed with birthday decorations, music, and hundreds of cupcakes, each topped with a candle along with hygiene kits and thoughtful gifts.
At the Miami Center, birthday gifts were given out to men, women, and children. Guests received new clothing, hygiene bags, other goodies and handmade birthday cards from caring individuals and school groups. Supporters also helped serve a special lunch in a cafeteria decked out with balloons and birthday signs.
Rev. Ray Taltoan shared an inspiring message on spiritual salvation, while the joyful chorus of “Happy Birthday” rang through the room, followed by guests blowing out their candles.
“This tradition began in 2006 through the compassion and vision of Marilyn Brummitt, who recognized that many individuals experiencing homelessness had gone years without anyone acknowledging their birthday,” said Antonio Villasuso, president of The Caring Place. “Her goal was simple, yet profound, to remind people they are seen, valued, and never forgotten. Now two decades later, that same purpose continues to shape events like the ‘Bombastic Birthday Bash.’”
Event sponsors included INTI. Q Solutions and the Deering Family who generously provided cupcakes for both Miami and Broward campuses. Presenting Sponsors were Key Biscayne Community Foundation, MER LLC and the Clair Family.
For many guests, it has been years and sometimes even decades, since someone has celebrated their birthday or taken a moment to recognize their worth. The event creates an opportunity to restore dignity, inspire joy, and remind each person that their life matters.
