Sanin’s Gold Award was called Mock Up! Speak Up! and the goal was to increase confidence for students, who faced a barrier in their public speaking skills, so they can try for leadership positions.

“I taught them different public speaking techniques so they can make speeches when it’s time for elections,” she says. “The majority of the students who run for board positions are Advanced Placement or Honor Students. I wanted to include other voices to make sure everyone is represented on campus.”

That includes students who have been in English as a Second Language (ESOL) programs.

“The majority of the students who are in ESOL are in Key Club,” she says.

Her project had several phases that started in October and ended in February. She worked with the Criminal and Constitutional Law teacher, Mrs. Alvarez-Shapiro with the creation of a Mock Courtroom, where the workshops would occur. She says it is a place where any students who wanted to explore public speaking and take the workshops were welcomed.

She brought the program to 35 Girl Scouts and their parents at Camp Mahachee to inspire them on their Gold Award journey.

“I had several students who went through Mock Up! Speak Up! It was an eight-month curriculum that will be repeated next year.”

Out of the initial group, 11 students ran for positions in Key Club and student council.

“My program helped with their speaking abilities and made them feel comfortable about going after these possibilities,” she says.

It was important to her to help those who are still working on improving their proficiency in the English language.

“I’m Hispanic,” she says. “My grandma barely speaks any English. I am the person who helps her. I understand the accessibility. That inspired me to create a platform for students to be more comfortable where they don’t worry about making mistakes. It really touched me personally, this project. I’m excited to see what happens next year.”

Sanin is the Girl Board Representative to the Girl Scout Council of Florida. She traveled to Tallahassee to lobby on a bill to restore the Girl Scout camp in the Florida Keys that was damaged by Hurricane Irma.

Sanin credits Girl Scouts with teaching her entrepreneurial skills. Those skills led her to becoming the top cookie seller for Miami-Dade County selling 4,341 boxes of cookies.

This summer she is going to Washington, D.C. as a national delegate to advocate on behalf of all girls at the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. National Convention.

At school, she’s the outgoing Key Club President. Her senior year she’ll be the Secretary. This past school year she was the Chair of Special Events for Student Council, organizing events such as all pep rallies and Panther for a Day. She was chosen as Class of 2027 Vice President of Senior Events.

She played on the Palmetto Girls Volleyball team. She also played club volleyball on an elite travel team.

Sanin takes the Television Production class and served as Promotions director. In that capacity she runs the social media accounts for several Mr. Panther contestants. She also works with some of the boys, getting them ready for the contest.

For college, Sanin is considering a major in Political Science and International Relations with a minor in History. Her college list includes Georgetown, Florida State University, the University of Florida, the University of Miami and Florida International University.
