The county will tell you the information is online. Some of it is. There\u2019s even a tool called the \u201cOnline Checkbook.\u201d But it\u2019s broken, the county knows it\u2019s broken, and officials have done nothing \u2014 not fixed it, not replaced it, not even bothered to tell the public.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not transparency. That\u2019s the appearance<\/em> of transparency.<\/p>\n

This Is Not a Small Town Operation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Miami-Dade is not a county in the traditional sense. It\u2019s a $12.9 billion enterprise \u2014 larger than the entire state budgets of Wyoming, Vermont, and Montana combined<\/em>. We have 2.8 million residents, 34 municipalities, one of the world\u2019s busiest ports, and an international airport that serves as the gateway to the Americas. At this scale, \u201cbe patient\u201d is not an acceptable answer.<\/p>\n
