After a disappointing loss on Thursday and a crushing performance on Friday, Miami responded today with excellent pitching from AJ Ciscar, a rare error-free defensive effort\u2014only the 11th time this season\u2014and a strong offensive showing in the final three innings. This win was especially important for fans who had lost confidence, but more importantly, it gives the team momentum heading into the postseason.<\/div>\n<div>This was a closely contested pitching duel through the first six innings, with a solo home run in the second inning by the Noles serving as the key difference between the teams. AJ Ciscar played a crucial role in giving the team a chance to take at least one game from the Noles. He needed to go deep into the game, the defense had to be precise, and the long ball was essential for victory. All three elements came together in the final three innings.<\/div>\n<div>With Miami managing only four singles through the first six innings, the game shifted in the seventh inning as the Miami offense gained momentum, harnessing increased power to push them toward the finish line. During the seventh and eighth innings, the Canes mimicked the Noles\u2019 strategy, turning the tables on them in a manner reminiscent of what had been done to us in the first game. Following a pitching change for the Noles in the eighth, the Miami bats finally came alive. Starting in the seventh, Dubovik singled with one out, then Gabriel Milano hit his fourth home run of the season deep to right field, providing the go-ahead run and surprising the Nole fans, who were eyeing a sweep today. With 78 pitches, AJ returned to the mound to pitch the seventh, maintaining the lead and requiring just 10 more pitches to halt a response after an initial single by the Noles. Alvarez\u2019s successful throw to catch Chase Williams, the team leader in stolen bases, ended any potential rally.<\/div>\n<div>With two outs recorded for the Noles in the 8th, they called upon their top reliever, Chris Knier. Knier faced a challenge similar to what Glidewell experienced Thursday night, giving up back-to-back homers by Williams and Sosa, their 15th and 16th, respectively, giving Miami a three-run lead with six outs remaining. Yet the team had shown resilience before, coming back from a five-run deficit in the 8th inning on Thursday, and they believed they could do it again. That\u2019s the mindset of a championship team.<\/div>\n<div>Nick Robert, who has been outstanding since his return, was given the ball to finish strong and prevent the Noles from repeating their Thursday night success. Nick recorded the first out but then walked the next batter, followed by a double that put runners on second and third. An RBI single followed, reducing the three-run lead to two with runners on the corners. JD, dissatisfied with what he saw, brought in Lyndon Glidewell from the bullpen to avoid a repeat of Thursday\u2019s performance. Lyndon recorded the second out, but a sacrifice fly allowed a run, cutting the lead to one. Max Galvin made a spectacular foul territory catch to end the inning, keeping Miami\u2019s narrow one-run lead intact.<\/div>\n<div>In the 9th, the Noles took a page from our playbook, committing two defensive errors. Dubovik opened the 9th with a leadoff single, advancing to second on a SAC by DeGoti, who came in defensively for Milano in the 8th. Sheahan singled through the middle, scoring a much-needed insurance run as Dubovik scored from second. The situation began to deteriorate for the Noles when Fabio\u2019s SAC bunt turned into an infield hit. With runners on first and second, a double steal attempt occurred, and the catcher (E2) threw to left field attempting to catch the lead runner. Sheahan scored, and Peralta advanced to third. Ogden continued moving the line with an RBI single, scoring Fabio. A failed pickoff attempt (E1) sent Ogden on third, but Galvin struck out, and Williams grounded out, leaving him stranded. Miami extended its one-run lead to four, leaving the Noles with one final chance to answer.<\/div>\n<div>Lyndon returned to the field to complete what he had been unable to finish on Thursday night. Trailing by four runs, the Noles fought hard but ultimately fell short by three, managing only a solo home run with one out. Glidewell sealed the victory with a pop-out to third and finished it off with a decisive three-pitch strikeout.<\/div>\n<div>Today, the Canes delivered a well-executed performance. The key to their victory was meticulous defense and an avoidance of errors. Ciscar provided the pitching depth needed for the win, while the offense scored seven runs in the final three innings, highlighted by three home runs, accounting for four of those runs. Despite allowing three runs, the bullpen held steady and secured the win. Derick Williams led offensively with a 3-4 effort, including his 15th home run of the season. Sosa hit his 16th, and Milano his 4th, with no other extra-base hits recorded. The team finished batting .324 with just three strikeouts.<\/div>\n<div>With the regular season now finished, Charlotte gears up for the ACC Tournament. While the bracket is still being finalized, today\u2019s win should give the team a confidence boost heading into the postseason. If they play like they did today, there\u2019s no reason to believe they will repeat last year\u2019s early exit under the single-elimination format.
