In a powerful and uplifting close to the school year, students at Miami Norland Senior High School are reshaping how they see themselves and how their community is seen through a bold, student-led photography exhibition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking place\u00a0Wednesday and Thursday, May 27\u201328<\/b>, at the North Dade Regional Library(\u00a02455 NW 183rd St, Miami Gardens, FL 33056),\u00a0the\u00a02nd Annual\u00a0<\/b>Danger of a Single Story: Miami Gardens Edition<\/i><\/b>\u00a0will feature more than\u00a0400 original photographs<\/b>\u00a0captured by students in grades 9 through 12.<\/span><\/p>\n

Guided by educator\u00a0Renee O\u2019Connor<\/b>, a 14-year veteran teacher and proud alumna of Miami Norland Senior High, the exhibit is the culmination of a year-long interdisciplinary project inspired by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie\u2019s acclaimed TED Talk,\u00a0The Danger of a Single Story<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through their African American History and Multicultural Studies coursework, students examined the stereotypes often associated with Miami Gardens. They then turned to photography as a tool for storytelling, capturing the beauty, joy, resilience, and everyday brilliance of their community from their own perspectives.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis project is about more than photography,\u201d said O\u2019Connor. \u201cIt\u2019s about helping students understand the power of their voice and their ability to shape how their stories and their community are told.\u201d<\/span><\/p>
